Quality: Audience Excellent, 10/10 Rating.

I included a couple minutes of the audience because a) that's when they began
playing the background music that signaled the beginning of the show and b) I
wanted to let people meet the babe who was standing next to me showing off her
big wedding ring, and whose screaming is evident off to the side through much of
the show (not loud enough to ruin the experience). I'm always supriswed at how
well some of these shows turn out considering the fact I'm moving all over the
place, dancing wildly to the music. My first order of business is total enjoyment
of the show, while the recording is always secondary. I like to believe that DLR
responded to my call to Eddie in the long opening of Everybody Wants Some!

Post'em if ya got'em!

Notes: Wow, what a show! You knew it would be a great night right off the bat when they jammed a 7-minute version of "Unchained." These guys are just having FUN up there onstage, you can see it in their eyes and their smiles. They are jamming, playing off each other, mixing it up...rare for the CVH lineup. Ed has found the joy again, smiling, waving to the crowd, and really loving playing the guitar for the masses. From where I was seated I could see backstage and Ed, Dave and Wolf were doing a silly dance with their arms to part of Al's drum solo...no one could see them, it wasn't done for the crowd...they were just having a good ol' time. Roth's voice has issues, but he was very focused on singing in San Jose, a lot less of the goofy stories that he told in Oakland two days ago. Roth's mic fell out of the stand and landed in the pit at the beginning of "You Really Got Me" and he misses the first line...too bad he got the mic back so quickly, would have been fun to here the band jam on the classic as an instrumental a little longer! And they busted out "Bottom's Up!" for the first time since 1982, again they seem willing to change things up...they are relaxed and enjoy playing with each other on stage..check out the extended ending to "Hot For Teacher". Just an unsurpassed evening of joyous rock and roll!! Can I get a witness!!! Praise the Lord!!!!

Notes: Van Halen returning to the venue where it recorded the famous 1981 videos. Pretty good show overall, seems like the band enjoys getting out there and playing. Roth's voice was a lot better than the last time I saw them in D.C., but is still a little funky. Roth's schtick is a bit odd throughout the night, from the weird stories, baton twirling, dogs, poses, etc; the dude has lost a few marbles along the way. But the band is tight and Eddie is great, right behind Jimi as the best ever. He did flub a few notes, most notably the intro to "Women in Love" but overall he is a marvel, still most exciting guitar player out there. Hard to miss him if he is in town especially with Roth at the mic with the classic material.

Here is a review from the Contra Costa Times: http://www.contracostatimes.com/top-stories/ci_20777357/review-van-halen-triumphs-oakland

There was good reason to be concerned when Van Halen abruptly postponed some 30 dates on its current tour.

The band's troubled track record does, after all, speak for itself. And what it says, in summary, is that Van Halen is one of the more volatile acts in rock 'n' roll history.

It seemed like a safe assumption that the postponement -- which, thankfully, didn't delay the two Bay Area dates -- signaled there were problems brewing within the group. A clash of titanic egos made for a more plausible explanation than the one vocalist David Lee Roth provided, which was simply that Van Halen needed some time to rest. Yet even if ol' Diamond Dave was right, who wants to go see a band running on fumes?

Any worries, however, were quickly put to rest once Van Halen took the stage on Sunday at the Oracle Arena. Far from looking tired, or at odds with each other, Roth and crew delivered a thoroughly energetic, cohesive and (gulp!) professional two-hour set in Oakland. Hopefully, that will again be the case when Van Halen performs Tuesday at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

The single most striking aspect about the concert was that the band members really, truly appeared to be getting along. It could be seen in their smiles and heard in their laughter. They weren't just simply going through the motions, on their way to another substantial payday, but rather seemed fully engaged in the moment. If they were faking it, the four players -- Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen -- deserve Oscar consideration.

Working a bare-bones stage set, with the only real prop being the massive video screen located behind the musicians, Van Halen used the opening track, "Unchained," as a kind of mission statement. The band wouldn't hold anything back as they charged through two dozen songs, ranging from the very early hits to tracks from the new album "A Different Kind of Truth."

Roth was buzzing with manic energy, acting every bit like a kid who'd just emptied out a candy store and then washed down his take with a case of Red Bull. He threw plenty of his famous roundhouse kicks, with his foot arching high above his head, and strutted like a peacock as he led the band through such exuberant fan favorites as "Runnin' With the Devil" and "Everybody Wants Some!!"

Roth proved once again that he's one of the greatest showmen in rock 'n' roll history -- and, by far, the best of the three frontmen to lead Van Halen during its 40-year career. If he'd been born in an earlier era, Roth would've surely been a song-and-dance man. At 57, he's got the moves like Jagger, a still-strong singing voice and an incredible knack for shtick and stories.

His performance is the single biggest reason why Van Halen is able to rise above some substandard material, which basically includes all of the new songs performed in Oakland. The fact that "Tattoo," a track best suited for illustrating the importance of the "skip" button on CD players, was chosen as the new album's first single probably tells you all you need to know about "A Different Kind of Truth."

Yet, it's wasn't just new cuts like "She's the Woman" and "China Town" that brought the set list down in Oakland. Even some of the old hits, like "Dance the Night Away" and "Somebody Get Me a Doctor," sounded pretty pedestrian. In general, Van Halen's songbook hasn't aged nearly as well as that belonging to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and many other classic rockers.

The band does, however, have the personnel. Alex Van Halen is a monster drummer, Wolfgang (son of Eddie) Van Halen is a more than serviceable replacement for former bassist Michael Anthony and Diamond Dave is Diamond Dave.

Then, of course, there's Eddie, who is nothing less than a magician on the frets. His signature solo on "Eruption" -- which he played late in the show on Sunday -- should be on every classic rock fan's bucket list.

Kool and the Gang -- the funk-soul-R&B band known for such '70s hits as "Jungle Boogie" and "Ladies' Night" -- was the inspired choice for Van Halen's opening act. One can only hope this will start a trend and we'll see more genre-hopping tours in the near future.

I positioned myself practically underneath one of the speaker stacks, so the sound is clear.

There is some slight phasing at times and a touch of noise from the wind on the odd occasion.

I thought that the sound mix wasn't too great for them, which seems normal for bands lower on the bill.

Slipknot's Corey Taylor joins the band on stage for the final track.

The weather over the first couple of days at Download was fairly shitty, there is some slight phasing at times and a touch of noise from the wind on the odd occasion too. So if you don't want a recording with a few imperfections like that then do not download. Please don't download this and then moan afterwards, I am fore warning you here.

I thought that the sound mix wasn't too great for Saxon, which seems normal for bands lower on the bill. The mix is very bass guitar heavy.

Opening day headline set from the 2nd stage at Download. Recorded by me, I was approx 30 feet from the speaker stack on stage right.

The weather was an absolute nightmare, windy and raining, so there is some phasing at times and a touch of noise from the wind on the odd occasion. So if you don't want a recording with a few imperfections like that then do not download. Please don't download this and then moan afterwards, I am fore warning you here. So be sure to check out the sample of the recording that is in the first post of this torrent.

Despite the shitty weather the performance was fantastic and it was an enjoyable set. He even tags on the English national anthem to the end of Sweet child o'mine.

FortaRock has two stages one open air "Monster Energy" stage and one Jägermeister stage in a tent on the otherside of the field. Machine Head played the first.

I haven't done much to the recording other than attempt to normalize it, since I'm getting a bit deaf in my left ear so I don't trust my skills in "equalizing" too much. Enjoy.

Is it any wonder King played his triumphant returngig on the 9th? Or that the numbers in 12.06.09 add up to 18? I think not.

It was the show to end all shows. Perhaps not the BEST show I have ever seen but most certainly the most anticipated. I have longed for this my whole life, or so it seems. It took King two songs to find his way again, the voice is a little shaky in the beginning. After that we all felt together that yes - this i going to work. The audience loved him. He loved us back.

I feel honored and privileged to have witnessed this. During Halloween, when Mikkey and Denner joined, my eyes wet a bit. After the show I cried after having the tension and anticipation released at last.

Whatever comes after this will not count. I have stared right down the eyes of Satan. He grinned at me. I grinned back. We felt as one.

Not the best recording, I was about 50 meters from the stage at the right speaker, sound was thin and the crowd was noisy. During Glad To Be Here, it started to rain
heavily. Therefore I had to put my mics under my clothes so the sound during Don't Cry is pretty much fucked. I decided to move to the stands, sound is getting better during
Civil War but the wind and rain is still very audible.

Big thanks to Kathleen for mastering the whole thing!

Good audience recording - it was killer to hear Estranged and Civil War. The audience wasn't the best as the most of them were high and drunk.
Unfortunately my connection cable between the battery box and the mics and Edirol died just before the show. That's why I recorded this without the battery box.

Big thanks to Kathleen for mastering the whole thing!

up my son and drove down to Santa Cruz stopping in Sunnyvale at Vito's for some NY Pizza to
get in the NY vibe. We parked and got in line. Just as the line moved sent my son towards
the front so he could get the spot. Met him right at the perfect location. Caught a two
song soundcheck but didn't get it recorded since my son was putting on his gear. Oh well.
As with all shows at Santa Cruz, there is the sound of one of the rides on the right channel.
Second show had fewer beach balls and cowbell boy wasn't banging the bell. A very listenable
recording and a strong performance worth a listen.

The other beach annoyance was each balls. It was worse than a Dodger game. Must have been at
least 50 of them creating havoc. My son learned how taper's exact revenge on beach balls. I
tried to fix the beach ball strikes in soundforge so they are not too bad. The only other
annoyance was the idiot with the cow bell during Don't Fear the Reaper. This big fat dude
wearing a tie die with a WELL logo (early internet for those who are too young to remember)
take out the cow bell and starts hitting it. He hands it to his wife for a few more hits then
to a friend and finally to a fouth jackass who thinks he is in the band. Starts trying to
perform a cowbell solo. You will hear it and curse him. Hopefully he gets to hear how lame
he really is. Aside from that a very listenable recording and a strong performance worth a listen.

Posted with permission from both rbose1 and Barghest and by request of jkennedy, danlynch, qhwest, kagee1, madman420 and everyone at nyctapers.
Both of these were nice recordings with minor issues related to recording in a giant open space with variable wind patterns and an insane crowd, which I was not brave enough to attempt.
Is this matrix the perfect recording? No. But it is heavy as balls. Thanks rbose1 and Barghest and enjoy!

Notes from Barghest:
***That's a different source from the one posted by rbose1 (cheers and thanks a lot for the effort!)
***Although we used almost identical equipment, the result is quite different, as:
***1) I was positioned ~30 m from the stage right at the dividing barrier in the centre & rbose1 was ~50m behind me.
***2) I was using windscreens
***3) I wasn't using bass roll-off battery device, that's why my variant sounds a lot bassier.

Notes:

I'm going to preface this by saying that this is my first upload, but by far not my first recording. In the past, I've recorded shows
using my Aiwa Mini-Disc I received as a gift in Japan in 1999. After years of using my Aiwa MD, I finally upgraded to my Tascam DR-05,
SPSB-8 Battery Module, and new cardioid mics. Looking back, I should have kept my original seats, which were in the middle of Section
148, but after a quick phone call to the venue, I was given seats in the ADA section, which were actually located on the floor and in
a heavily trafficked area. Luckily, the recording doesn't reflect this at all.

The band opened with “Unchained” and it was nothing but a race car in the red until Dave did his “Ice Cream Man” bit. I was crossing my
fingers, toes, and other appendages for “The Full Bug”, but we didn’t get it. I did get “Hear About It Later”, which more than made up for
it since “Fair Warning” is probably my favorite Roth era VH album. Maybe it’s just me, but Wolfie seemed a bit reserved. I think the band
pulled off “The Trouble With Never” just fine, and while new songs from a veteran band like Van Halen are usually a sign for beer or piss
break, it looked to me like everyone stayed put, and that was a good sign IMO. Ed’s solo was spectacular. He didn’t seem to struggle with
anything like I’ve seen him do in the past (2004, anyone???), but it was shorter than it’s usually been on past tours. No “316?, some quick
noodling, a dab of “Spanish Fly”, then Cathedral”, and a bit of “Eruption”, then it was over. Al’s solo was killer. These guys are getting
older, so the extended solos are likely a thing of the past. “She’s The Woman” went over BIG. One of my favorite bits happened during the
intro to “Women In Love”. Dave walked up Al's drum riser to, and Al was laughing. Dave took this time to tell Al, “”What the fuck are you
laughing at? This is as close to a ballad as we’re gonna get! Play the fuckin’ song!” It wasn’t mean-spirited, just funny as hell. You could
hear people all around me laughing their asses off, including my 18 year old son. During “Ice Cream Man”, he let out another great line: “Baby,
I only got two flavors for you tonight…strawberry and love. And we’re all out of strawberry!” The entire tour, Dave’s vocals have been an
issue with everyone, and all I have to say is this: This is 2012, not 1979, 1982, or 1984. The man is not a trained vocalist, nor has he been
gifted with pipes that we’d all kill to have. He had serious downtime where he didn’t set foot in a studio and sing for a few years, so that
obviously hurt him. He’s going to be 58 this year. But I think he’s doing just fine. If anyone is looking for Dave to hit the high notes,
banshee screams, and yelps like he used, then sit down at YouTube and indulge yourself in VH videos from that era. That’s the only place you’re
going find it. I’m happy with what I have from him now, and I think as Van Halen fans we all should feel the same way, and that’s all that
matters. Because it could be a lot worse…we could either be discussing a VH with some new, unheard singer, or not hearing and seeing any VH
at all.

If anything, it’s times like this I am really glad Dave is back. He’s made the band FUN again…and alive, which is also due in large in part
to Wolfie reinvigorating them as well. We don’t get the “stand-around-while-I-try-to-think-of-something-cool-to-say” like Hagar used to.
Nothing wrong with Hagar, so long as when he opens his mouth it’s for singing and not slamming the band as he's done lately, but I just can’t
find any other way to describe Dave’s return as “FUN”. Period. He keeps the concert momentum going non-stop, and I also love how, since he’s
back, the band launches into extended jam sessions in the middle of songs. He and Ed will bounce off one another constantly, and I can see
genuine happiness and satisfaction in Ed’s eyes when that happens. Looking at Wolf, you can see he gets off on watching his dad and Dave do
this, too. I don’t ever recall Ed and Sam doing this. Maybe with their guitars, but doing the “guitar & scat” thing Ed & Dave does, sometimes
during multiple songs? Nope. Everything I saw in Denver was 110% genuine…from the onstage camaraderie between all involved to Ed and Dave
hugging one another at the end of the show. They love working together and playing together. I really hope it lasts.

First off PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD! This was my first taping nightmare ever and this is not the complete show. These are my 24 bit FLAC files. First off there is a quick drop out in “Unchained”. I was in the VIP section so it takes a bit to adjust in position of drunken happy fans, me being one of them. All is well and sounding awesome until my recorder fades during “Full Bug”. End is lost on that. Then I get the DUMBASS venue employee say I’m in wrong seat. I go over to where they say, then sent back, all during “Tattoo” and very beginning of “Everybody Wants Some”! Unbelievable. Now everything kicks ass and is as good a recording as I’ve ever made. That is til the end of “Outta Love Again” where the whole fucking thing stops taping. I was unaware til I got home and thankfully I do not have guns or I may have painted my walls.

My sincere apologies to the many that want this show. Short of Iommi/Sabbath & Rush VH was the band I wanted to make sure I taped. I wasn’t going to share this til I saw that it appears no one else may have taped. I guess some of it is better than none.

We also got the sound check which was as awesome as the show! Ed could not believe the echo in the Dome. He asked what played there to which someone yelled “tractor pulls” to much laughter. Ed was stretching his fingers and saying that three days off from playing is rough. Funny now in hindsight of band postponing shows due to exhaustion. Only one needing rest is Roth. His vocal performance is fucking cringe worthy at many times as you’ll hear. Here’s praying someone else taped this too.

I made plans to see the Mickey Hart Band on the 8th and hadn't intended on going to this show, but thanks to a very nice fan I was provided with a (great) ticket and was able to go. Also included is Kool and the Gang's set. Recorded from the floor, row 15 dead centre. Very little audience noise aside from applause in between songs. Most likely the only show of the tour printed to tape.

After Kool and the Gang's stuff was removed from the stage, there were pieces of portable flooring placed on the stage, which were then given a dusting with what looked like talcum powder. If I didn't know better from hearing the intro music on previous recordings, I would have thought the show started without any warning. I could also see Alex waiting behind some of the bass amps during the music.

Heads cleaned, demagnetized and adjusted. Tape flips patched with Sony ECM 44B > Sony PCM M10. Even though the tapes I used were basically brand new and never recorded on, the beginning of side B on both is pretty wrinkled, so I did what I could but You Really Got Me and Eddie's guitar solo sound a little mangled. And as far as Sony's lifetime warranty goes, they have no more cassettes to replace these. Time for a lawsuit? Not to worry as there's at least 2 or 3 other sources including my back up.

Thanks to the guy beside me for sharing and for keeping quiet after I showed him one of my recorders during the intro music ("Is that digital?"). The quality was good enough that I accidentally changed tapes rather than flip the first one, so the first tape is parts 1 + 3 while the second tape is part 2. Oops!

This recording should be played at the highest volume tolerable for maximum enjoyment. Artwork is included with the torrent.

my tenth time at least seeing soulfly over the years, but the first in four years, and a first
for plymouth. small little club, took a few songs for the sound guy to get the levels right to me,
seemed too quiet for the first songs, then it got louder and for me personally more guitars in the
monitors was needed. nice set, mix of old and new. max said troops of doom came out in 1989, he is
definately getting old because that was 1986. the recording came out great. enjoy soulflytribe!!

Notes
0] My seventh Rammstein show attended! This time around I'm satisfied with having seen them only twice for this
tour. Six shows was far more than enough for the LIFAD tour, and two is quite satisfactory for me at this point,
especially since I had excellent spots at both shows!

1] I was rather tired for this show and Rosemont the following evening. Amtrak is inexpensive compared to air
travel, but I couldn't get much in the means of sleep even with ear plugs and an empty seat next to me. Video
suffered the ill effects of sleep deprivation, but audio didn't, thankfully. On the contrary, the audio turned
out rather well. Being DFC (as you'll see in the included photos) and in section 100 certainly contributed
much to this. The others being that QLA is a rather nice sounding arena, and the crowd around me was fairly
reasonable. I thought the two people seated immediately next to me would end up being issues, but neither of
them did. As far as video goes, the ZS10 performed admirably despite me, and its autofocus is deserving of a
special mention.

2] Concerning the crowd: the crowd was rather relaxed. There was enthusiasm, but it wasn't palpable, and it showed
in how the band performed and played around (or rather didn't) with their songs and the crowd. Perhaps the
amount of open seats and largely vacant section or two had something to do with it. That's not to say this was
a terrible show, simply that I was hoping for a little more singing and cheering (excluding those within a ten
foot radius of me, of course!) and for the singing to be louder. This is of course an effect of Rammstein doing
this many shows for a US tour. Of course I'm happy that I was able to go to more than one show for less money
than I would have otherwise, and I'm happy for those that were able to go to any show without forking over money
for excessive transportation use, I just want you guys to sing a long more!

3] Concerning Rammstein: excellent performance! Granted it hasn't changed beyond a couple song order changes.
Despite having watched video and listened to various audio sources for this MiG tour, being there is a
completely different experience (as it is for any concert), and all the video and audio sources in the world
couldn't hope to capture the feeling, emotion, and nuances of being there. All that's still firmly stuck in
that little bit of organ tissue inside your skull. This just helps you remember what you felt if you were there.
Perhaps this will also be the one recording for someone that convinces that person that concerts are worth it,
and that taping is worth it, too. Wishful thinking!

4] Concerning Rammstein Pt. 2: Still no dildo for 'Bück dich'. :-( The Canadian audience gets it, but we don't.
Never mind that they were only arrested once in Worcester, MA for it and performed the same song with the dildo
several times here in 2001 as part of the Pledge of Allegiance tour. Breaking a fluorescent light over Till
instead is an underwhelming replacement, although it be cool to know that this stunt is something out of their
very early years of touring and is not new for them. A peculiarity I noticed during 'Amerika' is that the lights
on one of the fan blades blinks off each revolution at approximately nine o'clock and turns on again at twelve.
Surely there's meaning to this? Let your mind run wild with theories!

Anyhow, enjoy this!

NOTES

Surprised there haven't been more of the gigs from this tour on dime (eighth on the tour, only Moscow showing so far).

Well, to paraphrase the sayings of the legendary Mark and Lard - two hours of great music crammed into a three hour set! I had a fear that the set would be bloated and indulgent, and Axl didn't let me down.

The two out of three is a reasonable rule of thumb. The classic songs were simply superb; but SIX (count them) solos as a token gesture towards Axl democracy? Avoid AT ALL COSTS the Tommy Stinson, Dizzy Lee, Bumblefoot and Axl solos - all are absolute tripe deserving no place on a concert setlist for professional musicians. Richard Fortus's and DJ Ashba's solos, while unnecessary, are entertaining enough.

So, three hours of music, you may (I would recommend) choose to skip through some, but don't write the band off, when they rock, they really rock. Not that great a spectacle to watch, I'm afraid: in particular, having three lead guitarists, rather than value for money, just makes it difficult to know who's the focal point. As the gig went along, however, Richard Fortus became more and more mighty.

Got home at 2:35, so apologies if sounding early-morningish. Before anyone asks, didn't record Thin Lizzy - didn't like them at the time, don't like them now. The sound quality on their set was truly awful, so I doubt a recording would have worked anyway.

Comes in around one minute short of 3 hours. The recording is complete, I've left the music at the start on for the build up and you'll hear Axl speak to the crowd right at the very end of the recording when he came back on stage. I got the recording levels bang on from the start, and there is minimal crowd chat, some but nothing too bad overall. Aside from the tracks with the explosions causing me a few post production difficulties, I'm really happy with the final outcome!

Notes:Since I have been baned at Dime I have asked for this audio to be shared here.
B/B+ instruments and vocals are distinct and clear, but there is a bit of crowd noise.
Although it was a crazy night, this recording came out great given the circumstances. I am bumped into several times by moshers, but the quality is pretty much consistent. Before Down came on (Specifically during Haarp's set), the police had been trying to break up the mosh pit, but of course ended up being stranded in a circle pit with people slamming the shit out of them from all directions. I saw several People recording, but it was too dark for my camera to pick up. Anyway, Phil was in a great mood and the band came with a lot of energy. The video that I recorded will be up soon.
The 'Marzi Montazeri' that Phil mentions at the beginning of eyes of the south, is a local guitar player whom Phil has chosen for his forthcoming solo album (and a former member of Superjoint Ritual). I actually bought my guitar from Marzi at Guitar Center westheimer when he worked there, so needless to say, I'm excited to see how this turns out.

Notes:
In preparation for their hugely anticipated headline performance at this year's Download Festival, Black Sabbath announced an intimate homecoming show at O2 Academy Birmingham. This was also a charity fund raiser for "Help For Heroes". The venue was packed with a sold out 3000 capacity crowd.

This was Black Sabbath's first performance in their hometown for 11 years — and their first concert since 2005. We had three-quarters of the legendary original lineup. Tommy Clufetos, a member of Ozzy's solo band, is filling in for Bill Ward, who is sitting out the group's reunion shows due to contractual disputes with his bandmates.

Tony looked well after his recent diagnosis with lymphoma - Ozzy proclaimed him "the Iron Man!"
